Black Laser Learning® Awarded Second US Navy Side Scan Sonar Training
Contract
Black Laser Learning® was recently awarded a second contract from United States Space
and Naval Warfare Command (SPAWAR) to provide advanced side scan sonar image
interpretation training to the US Navy's UUV community.
The Black Laser Learning® field instruction in San Diego was conducted in August while
east coast detachments will receive the program in September. The instruction was
carried out by Vincent J. Capone, M. Sc. President of Black Laser Learning who with over
20 years of sonar experience has developed a special Mine Identification sonar training
program.
The classroom instruction is augmented by a military version of the Black Laser Learning
sonar training program on DVD.
The new military training program was hosted by Vincent Capone who has over 20 years
sonar and hydrographic experience along with a Master’s Degree in Marine Science. Vince
has been side scan sonar instructor for the US Navy, US Army Corps of Engineers, US EPA,
Korean Navy, and Israeli Navy, Irish Navy as well as numerous commercial groups. He has
worked with the FBI and US Department of Justice on underwater investigations. In
addition to teaching sonar, Vince has also taught at Dowling College and the Isle of Shoals
Marine Laboratory.
